One of Hull’s leading accountancy and business advice firms has appointed new Directors in three key practice areas to support the firm’s Partners.
Smailes Goldie Group, which has offices in Hull and Barton, has appointed Victoria Shannon as Director of Agriculture and Landed Estates, David Hibbert as Director of Corporate Tax and Ben Thiim as Tax Director – Private Client.
Victoria joined Smailes Goldie Group in May 2013, before being promoted to Manager in July 2014. Her previous experience included work at a Big Four firm, where she developed a specialism in landed estates and agriculture. She holds the FCCA accountancy qualification and is studying for the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) qualification.
David Hibbert joined Smailes Goldie Group in March 2016, bringing with him a wealth of experience gained in Big Four and Top 10 firms, as well as in industry. His broad experience means that he has a skill set which includes research and development tax reliefs, corporate restructurings and reorganisations, international corporate tax issues, resolving HMRC enquiries and other tax risk management issues, and tax-efficient capital raising for young companies. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT).
Meanwhile, Ben Thiim returned to Smailes Goldie Group in 2017, having trained with the firm before relocating to London. He is a member of CIOT and STEP and is experienced in advising on UK capital taxes, trusts, landed estates and the UK taxation of international clients.
The trio will continue with their client-facing work in their new roles and will also manage and work to develop their respective departments.
Victoria Shannon said: “I know I speak for all three of us when I say that we are excited to be taking up these new roles and to being able to further develop our respective departments over the course of the coming months and years.”
Nicki Shipley, a Partner at Smailes Goldie Group, added: “We are delighted to have been able to appoint Victoria, David and Ben as Directors.
“They will be working to further develop our offering in their respective areas, so that we can continue to deliver the best possible tax, business advice and accountancy services to our clients for years to come.
“I would like to congratulate Victoria, David and Ben on their new roles.”
